Islamabad, April 13, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly denounced the brutal killing of eight Pakistani nationals in Iran’s Sistan province, labeling it a “cowardly act of terrorism.” The victims, all car mechanics, were shot dead at a workshop in Mehrestan district near the Afghanistan border, according to Iranian media. Six hailed from Khanqa Sharif in Bahawalpur, and two were from Ahmedpur Sharqia.
In a statement issued today, PM Shehbaz demanded that Iranian authorities swiftly investigate the attack, uncover its motives, and bring the culprits to justice. “Such heinous acts threaten peace across the region,” he said, urging neighboring countries to unite against the rising tide of extremism. He stressed the need for a collective strategy to combat terrorism, which he described as a shared challenge.
The prime minister has directed Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reach out to the victims’ families, offering immediate assistance. He also instructed the Pakistani embassy in Tehran to expedite the repatriation of the bodies. Heartbroken relatives have appealed for government support to bring their loved ones home for burial.
The attack follows a similar incident last year when nine Pakistanis were killed near the Pak-Iran border, shortly after both nations restored diplomatic ties following tensions. This latest tragedy underscores ongoing security concerns in the volatile border region, despite recent efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering peace with its neighbors while vowing to protect its citizens. “We stand with the victims’ families in this hour of grief,” he said, assuring them of full support.
