Torrential rains and powerful thunderstorms battered parts of Punjab, leaving a trail of destruction in Rawalpindi and Jhelum districts. At least three individuals lost their lives, and eight others sustained injuries in a series of tragic incidents triggered by the severe weather, according to local reports.
In Jhelum’s Sohawa tehsil, a devastating accident occurred in Mohalla Shaheedan when a boundary wall gave way, crashing onto a loader vehicle. The collapse claimed two lives and left four people wounded. Emergency responders rushed the injured to a medical facility in Rawalpindi, where two of the victims are fighting for their lives in critical condition.
The relentless downpour caused further havoc in nearby areas. In Pindi and Sohala, two separate wall collapses added to the toll. A woman in Dervaisa was severely hurt after being trapped under debris, while in Sohala, a child and a young man were critically injured by falling rubble.
In Rawalpindi’s Ratta Amral neighborhood, tragedy struck when a mosque’s wall buckled under the storm’s intensity, collapsing onto 24-year-old Musa, a resident of Hazara Colony. The young man was buried under the debris and could not be saved. His body was later transported to a nearby hospital for formalities.
District authorities have issued urgent advisories, cautioning residents about the ongoing threat of unstable weather. They emphasized the need for vigilance, particularly in areas prone to storms or with aging infrastructure at risk of collapse.
As the region braces for more unpredictable weather, local officials are urging the public to prioritize safety and avoid hazardous zones. The recent incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by extreme weather and the importance of preparedness in vulnerable communities.
