Islamabad, April 18, 2025 – Pakistan has firmly dismissed recent statements from India’s Ministry of External Affairs concerning Jammu and Kashmir, labeling New Delhi’s assertions as legally invalid and inconsistent with international norms. During a press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan emphasized that India’s designation of Jammu and Kashmir as a “union territory” lacks any legal standing.
Khan reiterated Pakistan’s position that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, as recognized by the United Nations. He stressed that the region’s final status should be resolved through UN Security Council resolutions and in line with the will of the Kashmiri people. “The international community acknowledges the disputed nature of this region, and no unilateral actions can alter this reality,” Khan stated.
Addressing remarks by India’s External Affairs Minister, Khan criticized what he described as a recurring pattern of unfounded accusations against Pakistan. “It is unfortunate that Indian leaders persistently drag Pakistan into their rhetoric, reflecting an unhealthy fixation,” he remarked. He found it particularly contradictory for the minister to claim disinterest in discussing Pakistan while repeatedly referencing it.
Khan also challenged India’s narrative on terrorism, asserting that such claims are an attempt to deflect from India’s own human rights violations and alleged involvement in terrorist activities. “India cannot hide its troubling record by pointing fingers elsewhere,” he said, urging New Delhi to address its internal issues instead of perpetuating false narratives.
Pakistan called on India to cease its “unfounded allegations” and take meaningful steps toward resolving the decades-long Jammu and Kashmir dispute. “After 77 years of unlawful occupation, it is time for India to respect the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people as outlined by the United Nations,” Khan concluded.
The statement underscores Pakistan’s unwavering stance on the issue and its commitment to advocating for a resolution in accordance with international law and Kashmiri self-determination.
