Islamabad, May 8, 2025 — Pakistani defense officials have strongly debunked recent Indian media reports alleging that a Pakistan Air Force F-16 was shot down, labeling the claims as “fabricated propaganda” aimed at misleading the public.
According to military insiders, the Indian narrative stems from frustration over repeated unsuccessful drone operations along the border. “India’s inability to achieve its objectives has led to a desperate attempt to spin false stories,” a senior official stated. The official suggested that India is using these allegations to lay the groundwork for potential escalatory actions in contested regions like Jammu and Kashmir.
The claims bear similarities to a 2019 incident when Pakistan downed two Indian jets during a skirmish following India’s airstrikes in Balakot. At the time, India alleged that one of its pilots shot down a Pakistani F-16, a claim refuted by Pakistan and later questioned by international reports. Independent assessments, including a US defense review, confirmed no Pakistani F-16s were missing, undermining India’s account.
Pakistan’s defense establishment reiterated its readiness to respond to any provocations. “Our forces are on high alert and prepared to counter any misadventures,” the official added, emphasizing that such narratives are part of a broader pattern of disinformation.
Analysts point out that the timing of the latest claims coincides with heightened tensions along the Line of Control. They urge both nations to prioritize de-escalation to avoid further destabilization in the region.
