Islamabad, May 10, 2025 – In a heartfelt address to the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India, marking a significant step toward de-escalating tensions that have gripped the region. The announcement follows weeks of heightened conflict sparked by a deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which claimed 26 lives. India had pointed fingers at Pakistan-based groups, a claim Islamabad firmly denied.
Speaking on national television, PM Shehbaz expressed profound gratitude to the people of Pakistan, the armed forces, political leaders, and international allies for their unwavering support in navigating this crisis. “For the sake of our 230 million citizens, we responded to ceasefire proposals with hope and resolve,” he said, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to peace.
A Global Effort for Peace
The prime minister extended special thanks to international mediators who played a pivotal role in brokering the ceasefire. He personally acknowledged U.S. President Donald Trump for his “sincere and constructive” efforts in facilitating dialogue. Additionally, he praised the contributions of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Türkiye, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations Secretary-General.
“My brothers Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stood by us in our hour of need, offering strength and wisdom,” PM Shehbaz said, his voice filled with gratitude. He reserved special mention for China, describing it as Pakistan’s steadfast ally for nearly eight decades. “President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people have supported us selflessly, and we will forever cherish their friendship,” he added.
Honoring National Heroes and Unity
PM Shehbaz paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, saluting their courage and the sacrifices of martyred soldiers. “The mothers of our martyrs have given their most precious treasures for this nation, and their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he said solemnly. He also commended the unity displayed by political leaders across the spectrum, including PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, whose guidance he described as “a beacon in turbulent times.”
The prime minister also recognized the role of ordinary Pakistanis, particularly those active on social media, who countered misinformation and upheld national pride. “Every citizen who fought disinformation online became a soldier for truth. You have made us proud,” he said.
A Call for a Stronger Future
Looking forward, PM Shehbaz called for continued unity and hard work to elevate Pakistan’s standing on the global stage. “Our civil-military leadership and political parties must work hand in hand to secure Pakistan’s rightful place in the world,” he urged. He expressed confidence that the nation’s resilience would leave the world in awe, just as it has been inspired by the bravery of Pakistan’s armed forces.
The prime minister concluded his address with a powerful message of national pride: “Let us work tirelessly, united in purpose, to make Pakistan a beacon of progress and peace. Pak Fauj Zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad!”
As the nation breathes a sigh of relief, the ceasefire offers a glimmer of hope for stability in the region, with Pakistan’s leadership and citizens alike committed to building a brighter future.
