A powerful explosion shook the Jabbar Market area near a Frntier Corps (FC) outpost in Balochistan’s Qila Abdullah district on Sunday, claiming at least two lives and leaving multiple people injured, local authorities reported.
The blast, which occurred close to the perimeter wall of the FC fort, caused extensive damage to nearby shops, vehicles, and infrastructure. According to district officials, the explosion appeared to target the fort’s outer boundary, raising concerns about security in the volatile region.
In the chaotic moments following the detonation, gunfire erupted as FC personnel engaged with suspected attackers, intensifying the situation. The exchange of fire added to the panic in the bustling market area, which is typically crowded with locals and traders.
Deputy Commissioner Riaz Khan confirmed that emergency response teams swiftly transported the injured to local hospitals. However, due to the limited medical facilities in Qila Abdullah, several critically wounded individuals were transferred to Quetta for specialized care. Among those hurt were a prominent tribal elder, his security guard, and a bystander, all caught in the blast’s vicinity.
Law enforcement agencies, including police and paramilitary forces, immediately sealed off the area and initiated a large-scale search operation to apprehend any suspects and prevent further attacks. Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators or confirmed the nature of the explosive device used.
The incident has heightened fears among residents, who are calling for stronger security measures to protect civilian areas near military installations. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack at this time, but investigations are underway to determine the motives and circumstances behind the explosion.
Local leaders and officials have expressed condolences for the lives lost and vowed to support the affected families. The blast serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where insurgent activities and targeted attacks continue to threaten peace and stability.
