Islamabad, May 21, 2025 – The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan hosted a vibrant celebration at the Silk Road Culture Center in Islamabad to commemorate the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. In a heartfelt address, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reflected on the deep-rooted ties between the two nations and outlined an ambitious vision for their shared future.
The ambassador traced the history of China-Pakistan relations back to May 21, 1951, when diplomatic ties were formally established, building on centuries of cultural and trade exchanges along the ancient Silk Road. He described the relationship as a model of resilience, nurtured by generations of leaders and the steadfast support of both nations’ citizens. “Our friendship has grown stronger with time, weathering global challenges and emerging as a beacon of trust and solidarity,” he said.
Recent high-level engagements, including reciprocal visits by the prime ministers of both countries and President Asif Ali Zardari’s productive trip to China, were highlighted as milestones that have revitalized bilateral cooperation. These interactions, underpinned by agreements between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leaders, have set the stage for deeper strategic collaboration.
Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed China’s firm support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development aspirations, as well as its efforts to ensure stability and counter terrorism. He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the one-China principle and its support for China’s key interests.
The ambassador emphasized the strength of the China-Pakistan bond, describing it as an “iron-clad” partnership that has endured challenges like natural disasters and the global pandemic. He pointed to the Silk Road Culture Center as a living symbol of the values of peace, inclusivity, and mutual benefit that define this relationship.
A cornerstone of the partnership, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), was celebrated as a transformative initiative under the broader Belt and Road framework. The ambassador noted China’s position as Pakistan’s largest trading partner for a decade and highlighted CPEC’s achievements, such as the operational Gwadar New International Airport and the year-round connectivity of the Khunjerab Pass.
Looking forward, Ambassador Jiang outlined plans to align high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with Pakistan’s 5Es framework—emphasizing economic growth, education, energy, environment, and exports. Priorities include expanding agricultural and industrial partnerships, advancing mining and renewable energy projects, promoting business-to-business ties, and launching initiatives to improve livelihoods. These efforts aim to deliver tangible benefits to communities in both nations.
