Islamabad, May 7, 2025 – The Islamabad district administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions in the capital city for one day due to heightened security concerns stemming from escalating tensions along the Pakistan-India border. The decision, announced on Wednesday, affects both public and private schools and colleges, prioritizing the safety of students and faculty.
According to an official statement from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, the closure is a precautionary measure in response to recent cross-border incidents. While regular classes are suspended, the administration clarified that examinations scheduled for Wednesday will proceed as planned. Students are advised to contact their institutions for specific instructions regarding exam arrangements.
The temporary shutdown comes in the wake of reported Indian military actions, which Pakistani authorities claim resulted in significant civilian casualties. In a late-night address, a senior military spokesperson reported that 26 Pakistani civilians were killed and 46 others injured in multiple strikes across various locations in Pakistan. Among the affected areas was Kotli, where a mosque was hit, claiming the lives of two young civilians and injuring others.
Law enforcement agencies in Islamabad have been placed on high alert, with increased monitoring of the situation. The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has confirmed compliance with the district administration’s directive, ensuring that all affiliated institutions are informed of the closure.
The administration emphasized that the suspension of educational activities is temporary and subject to review based on the evolving security landscape. Regular operations are expected to resume once the situation stabilizes.
Authorities have urged residents to stay informed through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel in the capital until further notice.
