Jamaat-e-Islami calls for nationwide shutter-down strike on April 22, 2025, to show solidarity with Gaza amid Israel’s ongoing offensive, urging Pakistanis to unite for the Palestinian cause.. The announcement was made by JI leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman during a massive “Palestine March” held in Karachi on Sunday, drawing thousands of supporters.
Rehman announced a nationwide shutdown on April 22 to show solidarity with Gaza’s cause. The Palestinian leadership has endorsed this action.” He emphasized the need for a unified response, stating, “We will coordinate with other Islamic organizations across the Muslim world for a collective response on the same day.” The strike aims to send a powerful message against the violence in Gaza and the international policies supporting it.
Rehman urged citizens to sustain their support for the Palestinian cause through continued boycotts of international products linked to Israel’s backers. “This is not a one-day action but a movement that demands persistence,” he said, encouraging grassroots participation to amplify the campaign’s impact.
Outlining JI’s broader strategy, Rehman revealed plans for additional events to keep the momentum alive. A special children’s march will be organized to engage younger generations, followed by a Gaza March in Multan on April 18. The campaign will culminate in a massive rally in Islamabad on April 20, which Rehman claimed would be “the largest public gathering in the country’s history.” These events are designed to galvanize public support and draw attention to the plight of Palestinians.
In a bid to internationalize the movement, JI is reaching out to global leaders and organizations. Rehman announced that letters are being sent to heads of Islamic states and human rights groups, appealing for decisive action against U.S. policies backing Israel. “Karachi will lead this movement against the slaves of America. We will succeed in this struggle,” he asserted, framing the campaign as a stand against global hegemony.
The announcement comes amid growing regional discontent over the Gaza crisis, with JI positioning itself at the forefront of Pakistan’s solidarity efforts. As April 22 approaches, the nation braces for a day of unified action, with businesses and communities expected to join the strike in support of Palestine.
