Karachi, April 22, 2025 – The Sindh Police, under the leadership of Inspector General (IG) Asad Khan, has announced a rigorous campaign targeting motorcyclists who fail to wear helmets, emphasizing road safety across the bustling city of Karachi.
In a press conference detailing ongoing traffic safety initiatives, IG Khan declared, “Riding without a helmet is a serious offense, and we are stepping up enforcement. Violators will face hefty fines, and their motorcycles will be seized until they comply by presenting a helmet.” He stressed that while the traffic police aim to maintain a courteous approach, ensuring public safety remains the top priority.
The initiative comes as part of broader efforts to improve road discipline and reduce accidents in Karachi, where motorcycles are a primary mode of transport for millions. “Helmets save lives,” Khan added, urging riders to prioritize their safety and that of others.
Progress in Crime Reduction
Beyond traffic reforms, IG Khan highlighted significant strides in tackling street crime across Sindh. Recent police operations have led to the apprehension of over 350 suspected criminals involved in robbery and other offenses. “Our teams are working tirelessly to make the streets safer,” he said, noting that these efforts have already yielded a decline in reported incidents.
Strengthening Investigative Capabilities
To further enhance law enforcement, the Sindh Police plan to onboard more than 1,200 new Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) dedicated to investigative roles. “This addition will significantly improve our ability to solve cases and deliver justice,” Khan explained, expressing optimism about the impact on overall policing efficiency.
Internal Accountability Measures
Addressing concerns about misconduct within the force, IG Khan reaffirmed the department’s commitment to accountability. “Any officer found engaging in illegal activities will face strict consequences,” he stated, revealing that several cases have been filed against erring personnel, with legal proceedings underway.
The Sindh Police’s multi-pronged approach, combining stricter traffic enforcement, crime reduction, and internal reforms, signals a robust effort to foster safety and trust in Karachi and beyond. Motorcyclists are advised to comply with helmet regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to safer roads.
