Lahore, March 30, 2025 – In an unprecedented show of force, Punjab authorities have mobilized over 47,000 police personnel to safeguard citizens during the upcoming Eidul Fitr festivities, marking the end of Ramadan. This extensive security operation, one of the largest in recent years, aims to ensure that the joyous occasion remains peaceful and secure across the province’s bustling cities and quiet rural towns alike.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Faisal Khan, announced the deployment during a press briefing on Sunday, emphasizing the province’s commitment to public safety. “Eidul Fitr is a time of unity and celebration, and we are determined to protect that spirit,” he said. The operation includes a mix of uniformed officers, plainclothes detectives, and specialized units stationed at mosques, markets, and public gathering spots. Over 5,000 additional traffic wardens will also be on duty to manage the expected surge in travel and shopping activity.
The security plan comes amid heightened vigilance following recent regional tensions, though officials have not disclosed specific threats. Key measures include round-the-clock patrolling, bomb disposal squads on standby, and the use of advanced surveillance technology, such as drones and CCTV networks, to monitor crowded areas. Checkpoints will be established at major entry and exit points of cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi, with random vehicle inspections to deter potential disruptions.
Local residents have welcomed the move. “It’s reassuring to see such a strong presence,” said Amina Tariq, a shopkeeper in Lahore’s bustling Anarkali Bazaar. “We can focus on celebrating with our families without worry.”
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity. With Punjab’s 47,000-strong police force on high alert, the province is poised for a safe and festive Eidul Fitr, blending tradition with tranquility.
