In a significant development for cricket in the region, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi officially assumed the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Naqvi succeeds Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), who concluded his tenure leading the regional cricket body. The transition was formally announced in a statement by the ACC, marking a new chapter for cricket governance in Asia.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Naqvi said, “I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence.” He emphasized his vision to harness the region’s potential, adding, “Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights.” Naqvi also extended his gratitude to outgoing president Shammi Silva for his contributions during his leadership.
Silva, reflecting on his tenure, highlighted the progress made under his watch. “It has been a privilege to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council. The steadfast commitment of our member boards has been pivotal in elevating the ACC’s stature across the region,” he remarked. His leadership saw notable strides in strengthening the organization’s influence in Asian cricket.
Naqvi, who has been at the helm of the PCB since February 2024, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Currently serving as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, he steps into the ACC presidency with a promise to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor. With Asia being a powerhouse in global cricket, all eyes will be on Naqvi as he steers the ACC toward a brighter future.
