The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent weather alert, forecasting heavy rainfall, gusty winds, thunderstorms, and scattered hailstorms across multiple districts of Punjab from Friday evening through Saturday. The severe weather could disrupt daily life, damage infrastructure, and affect agricultural activities, according to the NDMA’s latest advisory.
The National Emergencies Operations Centre has pinpointed several areas likely to bear the brunt of the stormy conditions, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura. Authorities have warned that the combination of strong winds and heavy rain may uproot trees, cause temporary power cuts, and create hazardous conditions for travel.
Hailstorms, in particular, pose a threat to crops and fragile structures, such as greenhouses or buildings with glass panels. Farmers are urged to take preventive measures to protect their fields, while residents are advised to secure outdoor items that could be damaged by high winds.
The NDMA has also cautioned travelers to stay updated on road conditions and avoid non-essential trips during the peak of the stormy weather. In areas prone to landslides, residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and adhere to safety instructions issued by local authorities.
In a public statement, the NDMA emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging citizens to stay informed and take proactive steps to stay safe. “We strongly advise everyone to exercise caution and prioritize safety during this period of extreme weather,” the agency said.
As Punjab braces for the incoming weather system, the NDMA continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with local agencies to ensure a swift response to any emergencies.
