COLORADO SPRINGS – Olympic figure skating duo Chris and Alexa Knierim are awaiting their first child, a baby son, marking a new chapter for the celebrated pair. The 2018 PyeongChang bronze medalists shared their joy on Instagram on March 16, 2025, revealing the milestone achieved through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Today Pakistan News celebrates their journey from ice to parenthood, a story resonating with fans worldwide, including Pakistan’s skating enthusiasts.
“Our baby boy is 23 weeks along! We are eagerly anticipating the joyful moments that await us,” Alexa, 33, posted, tagging #ivfbaby and #July to signal a summer arrival. A beachside maternity shoot captured the moment—Alexa glowing in a white-and-blue floral dress, her Olympic logo necklace gleaming, while Chris, 37, stood by in a navy polo and khaki shorts, beaming with pride. The images, tender and triumphant, underscore their unbreakable bond.
The Knierims’ story began in 2012 as skating partners, sparking romance within a month. Chris proposed in 2014, and they wed in June 2016 in Colorado Springs, their coach Dalilah Sappenfield officiating. In 2018, they etched their names in history as the first married American pair at the Olympics since 1998, clinching bronze for Team USA in South Korea—the sole U.S. pairs skaters that year. With two U.S. national titles and a Sochi 2014 alternate stint, they retired from partnering in 2020, leaving a legacy of grit.
Alexa’s path to this joy wasn’t easy. A rare gastrointestinal illness before their wedding dropped her weight to 80 pounds, requiring three surgeries. “It was a hard year, but it made us grow,” she reflected in 2018, crediting Chris’s unwavering support. “He was my rock,” she added. Their resilience shone through, mirroring the discipline that won them Olympic glory.
In Pakistan, where winter sports gain traction, the Knierims’ tale inspires. “They’re proof love and strength conquer all,” said Islamabad skating fan Amina Khan.
