Peshawar, April 18, 2025 – In a groundbreaking move to transform the lives of hearing-impaired children, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has launched an innovative cochlear implant program at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC). Partnering with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, this initiative aims to provide life-changing medical intervention for young children born with hearing challenges.
The program, now fully operational, targets children aged six months to five years, offering advanced cochlear implant surgeries at no cost to families. These procedures, valued at approximately Rs2.15 million each, are funded through a blend of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal contributions and the province’s Sehat Card scheme, ensuring accessibility for those in need.
In a remarkable achievement, HMC’s skilled Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialists recently completed a two-day surgical marathon, successfully performing nine cochlear implant procedures. This milestone highlights the team’s expertise and commitment to addressing hearing impairments in the region.
The hospital leadership commended the ENT department’s tireless efforts, noting that their dedication has been instrumental in establishing Peshawar as a hub for pediatric hearing care. “This program is a beacon of hope for families, offering children the chance to hear and thrive,” said a hospital spokesperson.
With the cochlear implant program now integrated into the Sehat Card framework, eligible families can access this transformative treatment without financial strain. The initiative not only enhances healthcare equity but also sets a precedent for specialized medical care in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
As the program expands, HMC aims to reach more children, empowering them to connect with the world through sound and unlocking brighter futures.
