London, April 13, 2025 – PM Shehbaz Sharif urges Afghanistan’s interim government to decisively combat terrorist groups operating from its soil, stressing that Afghan territory must not harbor threats.must not be used as a launchpad for attacks against Pakistan. Speaking to journalists in London, the prime minister addressed pressing regional security concerns while also sharing positive outcomes from his recent diplomatic visit to Belarus.
PM Sharif underscored Pakistan’s longstanding position that Afghanistan, as a neighboring and brotherly nation, should work with Pakistan to foster peace and mutual respect. “We have consistently urged the Afghan interim government to honor the commitments of the Doha Agreement, which explicitly prohibits the use of Afghan soil for terrorism,” he stated. He expressed concern over groups such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), which continue to orchestrate deadly attacks on Pakistani civilians and security forces from across the border.
“The sacrifices of our people, armed forces, police, and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism are immense and will not be forgotten,” Sharif said, urging Afghan authorities to act swiftly to dismantle these terrorist networks. He stressed that fostering good neighborly relations depends on Afghanistan ensuring its territory is not a safe haven for such groups.
Shifting focus to his Belarus visit, the prime minister described it as highly productive, highlighting new avenues for economic collaboration. He noted Pakistan’s abundant mineral resources and revealed plans to leverage Belarusian expertise in mining technology. “I visited a state-of-the-art factory in Belarus that produces advanced mining equipment,” he shared. “This opens doors for deeper cooperation in a sector critical to our economic growth.”
In a significant development, Sharif announced an agreement with Belarus to provide job opportunities for 150,000 skilled Pakistani youth. “The selection process will be transparent and merit-based, ensuring our young talent can contribute to both nations’ prosperity,” he said. Pakistan’s initiative enhances workforce skills, fosters economic growth, and strengthens bilateral ties through collaborative training and development programs.
The prime minister also took the opportunity to address the ongoing overseas Pakistani convention, calling it a landmark event. He warmly welcomed the diaspora, acknowledging their vital role in elevating Pakistan’s global standing. “Our overseas Pakistanis work tirelessly and send billions in remittances annually, which have seen a remarkable increase this year,” he noted. Sharif emphasized that the convention offers a platform to engage with the diaspora, address their concerns, and explore ways to further harness their contributions for national development.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s economic trajectory, Sharif expressed optimism about the country’s future, citing growing foreign investment and remittances as key drivers. He reiterated his government’s commitment to creating opportunities for all Pakistanis, both at home and abroad, while maintaining a firm stance against terrorism to ensure regional stability.
