ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday, March 14, 2025, appointed a judicial commission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail after authorities reported he could not be presented in court or via video link. Today Pakistan News covers this development as tensions mount over access to the former prime minister.
During a contempt of court hearing led by IHC Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, PTI lawyer Mishal Yousafzai alleged she was denied a meeting with Khan at Adiala Jail. The court had ordered Khan’s appearance at 2 PM via video link or in person by 3 PM. However, the Islamabad Advocate General and Adiala Jail Superintendent cited technical glitches preventing a video link and security threats barring physical presence.
In response, Justice Khan directed the jail superintendent and Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police to submit affidavits explaining the lapses. The court appointed Law Clerk Sakina Bangash as a judicial commission to visit Khan on Saturday, March 15, to confirm if Yousafzai is his counsel. Yousafzai also requested Khan be asked about meetings with friends, but the Advocate General objected, limiting the scope to legal access.
The jail superintendent presented a list of six lawyers signed by Khan, claiming Yousafzai was not his representative, a stance echoed by Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. He added that the couple met on Tuesday, per jail records. The hearing adjourned to March 19, leaving Khan’s court access unresolved.
