The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued an urgent weather advisory, forecasting turbulent weather conditions across the province from April 30 to May 4. Residents are advised to prepare for dust storms, thunderstorms, and heavy winds, with rainfall expected in multiple regions.
According to PDMA officials, northern and central districts such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujranwala are likely to experience significant rainfall accompanied by strong gusts. The stormy weather is also expected to impact Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, and surrounding areas, bringing potential disruptions.
From May 2 to 4, the southern parts of Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar, are anticipated to face thunderstorms and gusty winds, with moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized that the authority is on high alert, following instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. District administrations across the province have been mobilized, and departments including Health, Education, Irrigation, Local Government, and Livestock have been directed to ensure readiness. Agencies such as the Punjab Police, Civil Defense, and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) are also on standby to respond to any emergencies.
The PDMA has advised citizens to exercise caution, particularly during lightning and high-wind events. Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid open fields, and refrain from standing under trees or near power lines during storms. For emergencies, the public can reach the PDMA helpline at 1129.
As Punjab prepares for this bout of intense weather, authorities are prioritizing public safety and encourage residents to stay informed and vigilant.
