Punjab’s government launches a transformative initiative, distributing 10,000 electric bikes to Zakat-eligible students on April 24, 2025. The decision emerged from a pivotal meeting of the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council’s sub-committee, led by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Zakat and Ushr, Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah. “This transformative program reflects the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to uplift underprivileged communities,” Nasrullah stated. He revealed that the first phase will see 2,000 electric bikes distributed to students, marking the beginning of a phased rollout.
The meeting, attended by prominent figures including Senator Dr. Ghaus Muhammad Khan Niazi, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, and Parliamentary Secretary for Zakat and Ushr Zubair Ahmed, saw unanimous approval of the distribution plan. The initiative prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring both male and female students who meet Zakat eligibility criteria can benefit. Senior officials, including the Administrator of Zakat and Ushr Punjab, were also present, underscoring the program’s significance.
