As Makkah prepares to welcome millions of Muslims for the Hajj 2025 pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has released important safety guidelines to ensure a secure and organized experience. With the pilgrimage set to occur from June 4 to June 9, authorities are urging pilgrims to avoid resting or sleeping in corridors, passageways, or other high-traffic areas within the holy sites.
The ministry emphasized that keeping walkways clear is essential for maintaining smooth crowd flow and preventing accidents during peak times. “Clear pathways allow for safe movement and enable emergency teams to respond quickly if needed,” a ministry spokesperson stated. Resting in crowded zones, such as courtyards or aisles, can create hazardous congestion, posing risks to both worshippers and first responders.
Pilgrims are encouraged to use designated rest areas, such as tents or hotel rooms, to relax safely. This guidance comes as part of broader efforts to manage an expected record-breaking turnout, with over 2.5 million pilgrims projected to attend this year’s Hajj, surpassing previous years’ numbers.
To support the influx of worshippers, Saudi authorities have introduced a multilingual digital resource called the “Smart Book of Hajj Rituals.” Available in six languages—Arabic, English, French, Urdu, Malayalam, and Turkish—this guide provides detailed instructions on Hajj procedures and is accessible through mosque libraries and on Saudia flights.
Hajj 2025 marks the last pilgrimage expected to take place during Saudi Arabia’s scorching summer months, with future pilgrimages shifting to cooler seasons. Preparations are underway to accommodate the large crowds, including enhanced infrastructure and streamlined services.
Pakistan has also kicked off its Hajj operations, with the first group of pilgrims departing for Madinah in late April. Approximately 89,000 Pakistanis will travel under the government’s Hajj program, supported by 342 flights over a 33-day period. An additional 23,620 pilgrims will join through private operators. Nearly half of Pakistan’s government-sponsored pilgrims will benefit from the Makkah Route Initiative, which simplifies immigration by processing clearances at departure airports.
As the global Muslim community converges on Makkah, Saudi Arabia’s proactive measures aim to ensure a safe, spiritual, and memorable Hajj for all participants.
