Riyadh, April 27, 2025 – In a significant move to prepare for the upcoming Hajj season, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced a temporary suspension of Umrah permits for citizens, residents, and GCC nationals. The decision, effective from April 29, 2025 (1 Dhul-Qa’dah 1446 AH), will remain in place until June 10, 2025 (14 Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH), to streamline operations for the annual pilgrimage.
The suspension, managed through the Nusuk platform, is part of a broader strategy to ensure a seamless and secure experience for millions of Hajj pilgrims expected to converge on Mecca. Authorities have emphasized that the measure will allow for better crowd management and enhanced safety protocols during this peak period.
Restricted Access to Mecca
Since April 23, entry to Mecca has been limited to individuals holding valid permits issued via the Absher or Muqeem platforms. Only Mecca residents, Hajj workers, and those with official Hajj permits are permitted to enter the holy city. Starting April 29, stricter regulations will take effect, prohibiting anyone without a Hajj visa from entering or remaining in Mecca. Violators risk facing legal consequences, the ministry has cautioned.
