Dubai, March 15, 2025 – Pakistani Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed hailed U.S. President Donald Trump’s election and diplomatic initiatives as a “positive step for global peace” during his address at the International Parliament for Tolerance & Peace (IPTP) conference. The event, hosted by Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jaswan, former Speaker of the Arab Parliament and a prominent UAE leader, convened parliamentarians and political figures from 40 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe to discuss pressing global challenges.
Senator Hussain emphasized that diplomacy, not military force, is the key to resolving long-standing conflicts such as those in Palestine and Kashmir. “Complex global issues can only be addressed through direct dialogue,” he said, calling for solutions grounded in United Nations resolutions that uphold the right to self-determination for the people of both regions. He urged the international community to lift blockades, enforce ceasefire agreements, and ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid, particularly in conflict zones like Gaza and Sudan, where millions face displacement and food insecurity. Highlighting the civil war in Sudan, which has displaced one-third of the population and sparked a refugee crisis, Hussain advocated for a civilian-led peace process to restore stability. He also praised Trump’s diplomatic outreach, specifically citing the U.S. leader’s engagement with Iran on its nuclear program and his efforts to broker negotiations in the Ukraine conflict. “Direct talks, not military threats, are essential for resolving such disputes,” the senator stressed.
The conference showcased the UAE’s growing role as a global advocate for peace and tolerance, with Hussain commending President Mohammed bin Zayed, a key ally of Pakistan, for fostering an environment where over 100 nationalities coexist harmoniously.
In his remarks, Senator Hussain also looked ahead to the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference in 2025, a landmark 1955 summit that united Asian and African nations and marked the rise of the Global South. He underscored the ongoing shift in global power dynamics, with influence increasingly moving “from the West to the East.”
The IPTP conference featured keynote addresses from notable figures, including Mohammed Zakirzade, Speaker of the Tajikistan Parliament, and Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). As the parliamentary arm of the Global Council for Tolerance & Peace, the IPTP continues to promote international dialogue and conflict resolution.
Last month, IPTP President Al-Jaswan visited Pakistan, where he delivered a keynote speech at a regional connectivity conference hosted by the Pakistan-China Institute, chaired by Senator Hussain. The visit underscored the deepening ties between Pakistan and the UAE in advancing peace and cooperation.
Senator Hussain’s remarks reflect a growing optimism about diplomatic solutions to global conflicts, with Trump’s leadership seen as a potential catalyst for change. As the world anticipates the Bandung anniversary, the focus on dialogue and tolerance signals a renewed push for peace in an increasingly interconnected world.
