Karachi, March 26, 2025 – The Sindh government has unveiled a special holiday for all educational institutions across the province, set for Friday, March 28, to honor the sacred night of Shab-e-Qadr. This announcement, detailed in a notification from the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department, ensures that both public and private schools, colleges, and universities will pause academic activities, allowing students and staff to engage fully in the spiritual significance of the occasion.
Shab-e-Qadr, observed on the 27th night of Ramadan, holds profound importance in Islamic tradition as the night when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Known as the Night of Power, it is a time for prayer, reflection, and seeking divine blessings. The Sindh government’s decision reflects its commitment to facilitating religious observance during this revered period, offering the province’s educational community a chance to participate in late-night worship and communal gatherings.
“This holiday is a thoughtful gesture to support the spiritual needs of our students and educators,” said a spokesperson from the Education Department. “It’s a moment to unite in faith and devotion.” The closure applies province-wide, from bustling urban centers like Karachi to rural districts, ensuring equal opportunity for observance.
The timing aligns with the final days of Ramadan, a month already filled with anticipation for Eid ul-Fitr, expected around March 31 based on lunar predictions from the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco). While the federal government has yet to declare its stance on March 28, Sindh’s proactive step underscores its tradition of recognizing key Islamic milestones with holidays.
Parents and students welcomed the break, viewing it as a chance to recharge before the festive season. Academic schedules are expected to resume seamlessly on Monday, March 31, blending spiritual renewal with educational continuity in Sindh’s vibrant calendar.
