In a heartbreaking incident, a 24-year-old fast bowler, Aleem Khan, tragically lost his life during a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Challenge Cup match in Bannu on May 5. The promising young athlete suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while bowling in a domestic two-day game, leaving the cricketing community in shock.
According to match officials, Khan collapsed mid-game, prompting immediate action from those present. Despite being swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. The sudden loss of such a young talent has cast a somber mood over the tournament.
Match umpire Inamullah Khan, who witnessed the incident, shared, “It was a devastating moment. Aleem was in the middle of his over when he fell. We acted quickly to get him medical attention, but it was not enough to save him.”
Abdullah Khurram Niazi, PCB’s Director of Domestic Cricket, expressed profound grief over the tragedy. “The loss of Aleem is a tremendous blow to our cricketing family. We stand with his loved ones during this time of immense sorrow,” he stated.
Khan, a local from Bannu, was laid to rest in his hometown, as confirmed by his family. His untimely passing serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, even for those in their prime. The cricketing fraternity continues to mourn the loss of a bright talent taken too soon.
