Islamabad, April 17, 2025 – The United Kingdom has expressed strong commitment to partnering with Pakistan to propel its economy toward a remarkable $2 trillion milestone, according to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott. Speaking at the Leaders in Islamabad Business Summit, Marriott underscored the UK’s dedication to fostering Pakistan’s economic growth through deepened collaboration in key sectors such as finance, healthcare, education, energy, and engineering.
Marriott highlighted the immense potential of Pakistan’s vibrant and youthful population, positioning it as a cornerstone for economic transformation. “With sustained reforms and a focus on stability, Pakistan has the opportunity to achieve a $2 trillion economy,” she said, emphasizing the importance of ongoing economic reforms, including those aligned with International Monetary Fund initiatives.
The UK-Pakistan relationship, described by Marriott as a dynamic and mutually beneficial partnership, is already bearing fruit. Bilateral trade between the two nations currently stands at £4.4 billion, with both countries aiming to more than double this to £10 billion in the near future. Beyond trade, the partnership extends to transformative projects such as the Reko Diq mining initiative and joint efforts in clean energy and climate resilience.
The UK is also investing significantly in Pakistan’s development, with a $45 million program dedicated to macroeconomic growth. Additionally, Britain is championing sustainable energy solutions to support Pakistan’s transition to a greener future, which Marriott described as critical for long-term prosperity.
At the summit, Marriott commended the organizers, particularly Azfar Ahsan, for creating a platform that unites global leaders, policymakers, and innovators to chart a path for Pakistan’s economic ascent. She emphasized that the UK’s collaboration with Pakistan is rooted in shared goals and a vision for a stronger, more inclusive economy.
The British High Commissioner concluded her address by reaffirming the UK’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s aspirations. “Our partnership is built on mutual respect and a belief in Pakistan’s extraordinary potential. The UK stands ready to contribute to a resilient and thriving Pakistan,” she said.
As Pakistan continues its journey toward economic reform and growth, the UK’s pledge signals a robust alliance aimed at unlocking new opportunities and fostering sustainable development for the nation.
