In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad are bracing for moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds and thunder, with intermittent breaks over the next few days. Similar conditions are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where the rugged terrain could exacerbate risks. The PMD has flagged the possibility of landslides in vulnerable hilly areas, including Murree and Galliyat, urging residents and travelers to exercise caution.
Central and northern Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, will likely experience duststorms and thunderstorms, particularly on the evenings of April 16 and 18. Isolated hailstorms could add to the challenges, potentially damaging crops and infrastructure. Southern Punjab districts, such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, and Bahawalpur, are forecast to face duststorms and gusty winds on April 18 and 19, which may reduce visibility and affect outdoor activities.
The Met Office has warned of significant risks from the stormy weather, including damage to loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels due to strong winds, hail, and lightning strikes. Farmers, particularly those harvesting wheat, have been advised to adjust their schedules to minimize losses. “This weather event could disrupt agricultural routines and infrastructure if precautions are not taken,” the PMD noted in its advisory.
